Do I have to have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing to enroll?
Yes, a BS or BA degree with a major in nursing or BSN is a requirement.
What is the length of the program?
The program is 38 credits. Thirty-two (32) credits are required in nursing with six credits in graduate electives.
How is the program delivered?
The
program is delivered through a compressed scheduling format. Each
course is delivered in an eight-week term. There are two terms each
semester. In the first eight-week term, a course is delivered in a face
to face format, meeting four times on the Bellin College campus. In the
second eight week term, a course (usually a different course) is
delivered over the internet.
How long does it take to complete the program?
The
program is designed as a part time program IF you take the courses only
in the internet format or only in the compressed face-to-face format.
The part-time program would take approximately four years to complete.
If you combine taking the courses through both the internet and face to
face format, it would take approximately two years to complete,
depending on which term you entered the program.
The length of time it takes to complete the program depends on how many courses you take each semester.
If I take the internet option, do I ever have to come to campus?
No.
You will receive individual orientation and advising through virtual
modalities, such as the internet, e-mail or phone. Your courses will be
delivered over the internet with practicums arranged in your home
community with an internet component.
We strongly encourage you to come to campus for graduation.
Are the internet courses self-paced?
The
internet courses are not set up as an independent learning program. The
courses are delivered in an eight-week term. Course requirements and
class assignments have specific expectations and deadlines that are
determined by the faculty.
However, the internet
courses provide flexibility in your ability to access the web site and
complete the course work at any time on any day or night.
What computer requirements must I have to take an internet course?
You will need a computer that connects to the internet and a modern web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape are recommended for PC users; Safari, Camino or Firefox are recommended for OSX users.
If I take the compressed scheduling option that meets face-to-face, how many times do I have to come to campus?
The
compressed face-to-face option meets four times during the 8 week term.
Generally, these meetings are held during the first, third, fifth and
seventh week, on Fridays, beginning in the afternoon.
What are the residency requirements?
Twenty-nine (29) of the 38 credits must be taken from Bellin College of Nursing.
What happens if I have to drop out for a period of time?
Enrolling
in one eight-week term each semester is considered satisfactory
progression in the program. If you are unable to do this, you will need
to notify your advisor who will assist you in explaining the options
and developing an alternative plan.
Is there a time limit for completing the degree?
Yes, the program must be completed in eight (8) years from the time of your first enrollment in the program.
How many credits do you accept from other colleges?
Nine
(9) graduate credits may be transferred in from other colleges or
universities. You must submit official transcripts for evaluation.
Are there any "clinicals" or "practicums" required in the program?
Yes,
each of the tracks, Administrator and Educator, have two 3 credit
practicums that are required for the program. We will work with you to
find an appropriate practicum that meets the needs of your professional
goals.
How are the Practicum courses arranged?
In
conjunction with your advisor, practicum experiences will be arranged
that meet your professional goals. Your advisor will assist you with
preceptor selection and orientation to the practicum courses.
What types of financial aid are available?
The
following types of funding are available: federal government
traineeships, private scholarships, and student loans. Graduate
students are also encouraged to contact their employer regarding
tuition assistance and to seek local private funding.
What is the tuition for the program?
The
Tuition for the 2006 – 2007 academic year is $535 per credit. A
technology fee of $75 per term and student services fee of $25 per term
will also be assessed.
Is the program accredited?
Bellin
College of Nursing is approved by the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission. The baccalaureate and
master’s programs are approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing,
National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and the
Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Do I have to do a Thesis?
No.
The final project of the program is called a Leadership Integration
Project. Students may choose to do a thesis for this project, but other
major scholarly projects applicable to the leadership role of advanced
practice nursing will also meet this requirement. The student will work
closely with an advisor in designing this project.
