NOTE: Statistics based upon official Fall enrollment roster.
Although
the student population is primarily Caucasian, BCON has made a
commitment to increasing the diversity of its student body. BCON,
in conjunction with the Bellin Foundation, initiated a full scholarship
program beginning 2006-2007 for students who are bilingual in either
Spanish or Hmong, to complete BCON’s BSN program, and make a commitment
for employment in the Bellin Health system for four years upon
graduation.
FACULTY AND STAFF
BCON is equally committed to having qualified, diverse faculty and staff.
BCON’s faculty composition is briefly summarized below:
- 9 total faculty members: 89% (17) full-time; 11% (2) part-time
- 7 Adjunct Faculty
- 1 Faculty Assistant
- 16% (3) possess terminal degrees; 32% (6) pursuing terminal degree
- student/faculty ratio: 13:1
BCON’s
support staff involves 11 full-time, 2 part-time associate, 2 student
interns, and 2 work study students, who possess key responsibilities in
the areas of accounting, admissions, development and public relations,
financial aid, grants, registrar, lab and resource center support,
secretarial service, and technology.
BCON’s
Administration is comprised of the President and Administrative
Cabinet. The Cabinet involves five vice presidents: Vice
President of Student Services, (Jo Woelfel) Vice
President/Director of Development and Public Relations, (Dionne
Castor), the Vice President of Business and Finance (Joe Keebaugh),
Vice President/Dean of Nursing, (vacant) and 2 Program
Directors/Administrative Academic Department, (Connie Boerst and Dr.
Vera Dauffenbach).
STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
SEVIS Approval: The College received notification on March 28th
that we have been approved for our SEVIS Application (Student and
Exchange Visitor Information System) to the US Immigration and Customs
Enforcement office of the US Department of Homeland Security.
This will provide us with opportunity to educate International Students
who are not US residents. One student was accepted for Fall 2006
under this approval.
Salvation Army and the BCON Nurse-Managed Clinic:
The College participated in discussions and a preliminary proposal to
hold a Bellin College Nurse-managed clinic in the forthcoming Kroc
Community Center. The draft Cooperating Agreement
is under review by the Chicago Office of the Salvation Army as part of
its total review of the Green Bay proposal. Further negotiations
are eminent, including size and medical backup. Discussions with
the Bellin Medical Group are underway. Meanwhile, a faculty
committee is working to determine the scope of nursing services to be
offered.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
One of the
greatest strengths of the College rests with the community minded
individuals who serve on the College’s Board of Trustees. The
Bellin Health System Board of Directors officially approved the new
appointments of Dr. Fergus Hughes, Ms. Ruth Feldhaus, Mr. Ron Pfeifer,
and Mr. Don Salmon. They join Ms. Kathy Hughes, Dr. William
Wittman, Mr. John Underwood, Mr. George Kerwin, and the dedicated
Executive Committee, Mr. Tom Prust, Ms. Kathy Riley, Mr. Bob Clausen,
Mr. Max Frost and Dr. Chuck Ihrke. I must add an anecdotal note
that in many weeks this past year, I nearly forgot that many Board
Members were service-minded
volunteers
rather than paid employees, as their untiring presence at the College
for many meetings and consultations was just as frequent as many of the
employees. Thank you all.
